EXCELLENT CD - On retirement
Professor Wiseman has received so many responses to the piece in last month's newsletter that I have decided to provide more details this month.
Strategies for a Satisfying Retirement
The goal of this presentation is to create a positive approach to retirement and to identify strategies to cope with a major life transition successfully. The presenter, Dr Ian Wiseman, is familiar with the 'journey of transition' and is able to share from his first hand experiences.
In Strategies for a Satisfying Retirement Dr Wiseman looks at why retirement isn't the end but is, in fact, the beginning of a new, exciting phase of life. The French speak about the three ages of man: the Age of Learning, the Age of Working and the Age of Living and in this presentation strategies are offered to help ensure a successful transitioning from the 'Age of Working' to the 'Age of Living'. Some cultures, famed for their longevity, do not have a word in their vocabulary for retirement with the Nike advert proclaiming, 'There is no finish line'! Strategies for a Satisfying Retirement is based on this theme to ensure a successful life-transition into the 'Age of Living'.
In setting the scene Dr Wiseman deals with topics which include 'The Era of Down-Ageing', 'Reasons why people are living longer' and 'What is your attitude to age?' Myths about retirement are dissected and questions such as, "Why is retiring so difficult for some?" are answered.
A brief look at the history of retirement helps to explain why retirement is an industrial age concept. Techniques to prepare for this life-transition are presented including how to stay emotionally healthy while an understanding of the science of contentment is provided to help ensure a contented life in the 'Age of Living'. Other issues addressed include 'Territorially speaking' which deals with a retiree's re-entry into a partner's space while 'Medically speaking' includes the important topic of 'Be alert for the tell-tale signs of depression'.
And most importantly, effective strategies are presented on how to anticipate and effectively deal with high risk areas that may threaten to derail or spoil the 'Age of Living'.
The cost is R80 plus R17 for postage.
