Orchard Lea Nursing Home
Orchard Lea is a nursing home that offers residents frail care, mid care and assisted living. We endeavour to provide our residents with professional nursing and care. Orchard Lea offers a warm and loving environment, clean rooms and facilities as well as nutritious, tasty meals.
We pride ourselves with the view that we are a “home” and not an institution. Family members and friends are encouraged to visit their loved ones at any time of the day and they are most welcome to join their loved ones over lunch or tea.
Orchard Lea has been trading as a nursing home for almost 30 years. We carry a proud history and are well known in the greater Durban area. Hence, a large proportion of our residents are referred to us by family, friends and doctors in the community.
Critical to the success of a Nursing Home is its staff compliment. At Orchard Lea we hire all our own staff and because of this we manage the accountability of the staff and hence we do not subcontract out any staff whatsoever. To us this is very important especially in the area of nursing and care giving. We offer 24 hour nursing care and we are equipped to deal with peg tube feeds, nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters and tracheas.
We have doctors in the area who willingly make ‘house calls’ for any of our residents who are too frail to go and see the doctor at his/her rooms. The same applies to therapists (Physio, Occupational and Speech) who willingly come in to provide rehabilitative work on our residents.
At Orchard Lea we practise ‘pro-active’ nursing which entails preventing accidents and illness wherever possible. This is achieved by rigorously monitoring all our residents on a daily basis.
We also run clinic days where our local doctor assesses every resident and provides a general consult.
Orchard Lea has 51 rooms, four of which are double rooms and the remainder are single rooms. All rooms are fitted with TV connections. Although the rooms are all fully furnished, residents are encouraged to bring in their own special furnishings, paintings and photographs so that they can create their own ‘homely feeling’.
Residents do share bathroom facilities and there is a general lounge and dining area.
We have a lovely under cover patio area which leads out onto a pretty garden which is well shaded.
