Napier Retirement Village is situated in the charming historical village of Napier which lies beneath the Soetmuisberg mountain range, less than two hours scenic drive from Cape Town. Tucked into a green valley, this typical Overberg country town full of character and old-world charm, offers true peace and tranquility in a unique rural setting, and is a safe-haven from the crime and grime of city life.
THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR RETIREMENT
Situated on the top of a hill overlooking grazing livestock on open fields of barley and wheat the ‘Ou Skool’ (“Old School”) is an impressive old building with wooden floors, high ceilings and a rich history. It has been converted and lovingly restored to form the nucleus around which the Napier Retirement Village has been designed.
With breathtaking country views of wide, open spaces, undulating farmlands and hills, residents can relax in the comfort of complete security. And aside from the delightful array of farm stalls, shops and restaurants in Napier, the area boasts a wealth of natural attractions:
Africa’s southernmost tip at Cape L’Agulhas is a mere 30-minute drive away
Arniston, the picturesque 200-year old fishing village is also close by
Hermanus’ expansive beaches and popular shopping centres are just an hour’s drive away
The De Hoop Coastal Nature Reserve is within easy driving distance
The small missionary village of Elim, declared a national monument, is also easily accessible
ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
There are 25 cottages, seven terraced houses, 25 assisted living units and 19 health care beds.
COUNTRY COTTAGES
Designed in the Cape vernacular architecture in response to the ‘Ou Skool’ building, there is a choice of one or two bedroom units within a carefully landscaped garden setting. With their thick walls, tapered window reveals, exposed rafters, terraces and courtyard gardens with ‘werf mure’, the cottages offer charm and relaxed country living.
TERRACED HOUSING
Once the ‘Ou Skool’s’ woodwork building, this wing has been converted to provide three 2-bedroom units and three 1-bedroom units. Each terraced house has its own terrace with north facing country views and they provide compact, convenient living at affordable prices.
ASSISTED LIVING
Once the ‘Ou Skool’s’ classroom block, a new wing has been added which encloses a courtyard garden around which 25 assisted living units are positioned. With close proximity to the health care facility and nursing assistance, and with their own library, living and dining room, these units provide a safe haven with inward living for those wanting a more manageable environment.
CLUB HOUSE AND COMMUNAL FACILITIES
The ‘Ou Skool saal’ (hall) has been beautifully renovated and converted into the Club House. Napier Retirement Village life revolves around the Club House where residents gather for meals in a beautifully appointed Victorian dining room which opens out on to a large covered terrace with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside.
