Equestria Village Retirement Centre

Equestria Village is a residential development designed for the over 50's who enjoy an active and socially varied lifestyle with an emphasis on healthy living, but who are looking at simplifying their lives by downsizing accommodation and the related maintenance and management requirements. We have catered for security, pleasant surroundings, services and the wellbeing of our residents. Elegant water fountains and spacious designs are the insignia of the newest edition to our family of retirement centres: Equestria Village.
Equestria Village is situated in the newly developing area of Equestria in Pretoria East and is characterized by its spacious and comfortable layout and designs.
With a lighter load of responsibilities, residents now use their time to travel, volunteer, spend time with family and friends and even catch up on their reading - what retired life is meant to be! This is exactly what the developer of Equestria Village had in mind when specially designing this purpose-built environment that offers residents the opportunity to lead a healthy and independent lifestyle that gains from strong social connections, a leading factor in life fulflllment and extended health.

Community Centre
A healthy and independent lifestyle that gains from strong social connections is a leading factor in life fulfillment and extended health, and here at Equestria Village we strive to create an environment that teams with opportunities for social interaction and so designed the Centre to accommodate these expectations. Community and social get-togethers are frequent and residents can enjoy making new friends and acquaintances on a daily basis through various social outings and activities. The community centre forms the heart of the village, centrally located and comprising of a dining room, library, coffee lounge, administrative and 1st level nurse offices.
Dining Area
Tasty and well-balanced meals are served in our "Bistro" - style dining room at reasonable prices. Lunches are served daily. Special arrangements can be made with the managers for functions such as parties and family gatherings.
Coffee Lounge
Cozy coffee and hobby lounge allows residents to come together to enjoy a cup of coffee, play the piano or participate in a game of cards.
Library
The library features an extensive collection of both English and Afrikaans fiction and non-fiction books as well as a large collection of various magazines.
Outdoor
In the afternoons residents group together for exercise on our carefully designed walk-ways which ribbon themselves around the centre. These walkways also serve as ramps for easy wheelchair access and movement.
Medical / 1st level nursing
A 1st level nurse is on duty daily. The nurse ensures all our residents receive the necessary nursing requirements which includes:

Evaluating patients and when necessary refer to medical practitioners, physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists and any other medical team

Testing blood pressure, pulse and respiration and testing of blood-sugar levels and urine

Evaluate and caring of small wounds

Removing of stitches

Arranging and facilitating specialist visits, for example, foot, eye and ear specialists and reflexologies

Making arrangements with the ambulance services when patients need to be transported to hospital

Controlling of medication

Planning health talks and arranging speakers / lecturers to meet with residents

Health guidance / information supplied on a personal level

Giving of vitamin injections, as prescribed by doctors

House visits done to support and give advise to house bounded residents
24 hour day, frail care facilities are readily available at Willow Haven Clinic situated on the corner of Harte & Strulents Streets, The Willows, which is in close vicinity to Equestria Village.
Our 30 bed frail care is supervised by professional nurses and assisted by community doctors.
Security
A secure environment is ensured with 24-hour gated security and a perimeter wall topped with multi-zoned electrified fencing. Additionally, every unit is connected via state of the art telephone system (which has a panic button) to the security control room manageress and residents. All residents can phone within the village free of charge.
Travel Bus
A minibus is available to transport residents to local shops and to various other outings. A timetable for the minibus is posted on the community centre notice board.
