Construction has officially started on the 4000m2 Lifestyle Centre at Evergreen Broadacres retirement village. It will provide residents of this ‘town-meets-country’ estate access to a number of supportive and age-friendly services that form the Evergreen promise of a happy, carefree and healthy retirement.
This retirement village was modelled on the Muizenberg facility due to its success. The new Broadacres Lifestyle Centre is set on the edge of a lush green belt. The new building will include a resort-style TV lounge, dining and bistro area, a games room, salon, heated pool, gym, library as well as outdoor entertainment areas.
Broadacres Lifestyle and Healthcare Centre caters perfectly to a spirited and fun-loving community. Activities will include pool, bridge, photographic clubs, music appreciation groups and drinks evenings.
“At Broadacres Centre, the activities need only be limited by residents’ imagination,” says Evergreen Lifestyles Managing Director, Derek Drew. “Social and recreational opportunities are abound and we will have a team of dedicated staff on hand all the time to help people exercise, explore their surroundings when they’re not simply relaxing and enjoying their retirement in the picturesque village setting just 3 kms north of Fourways, close to William Nicol, Witkoppen and Cedar Roads.”
There is also a 2000m2 Health Care Centre, consisting of a 32 bed Frail Care which will be easily accessible from the new Lifestyle Centre through a separate entrance. It will allow residents and people in the surrounding suburbs to enjoy the homely decorated centre.
The health care centre will include a visitors’ reception, a large lounge with homely furniture and big screen TVs, a dining room, well-equipped kitchen, staff offices, occupational therapy room, consulting doctor’s room as well as a sterile procedure room. The naturally bright interiors, beautiful views through the large windows and the particular colours of the rooms and corridors (chosen based on research into the restorative and emotional qualities of colour) all make up the care that went into the design and the décor.
Unique Health deliver health care services in all the Evergreen retirement villages. They will manage all aspects of the new Health Care unit. “With a total of 13 Frail Care units currently under management, Unique Health is experienced in frail care so they are well positioned to provide all services as well as registered nurses, carers and specialist doctors on call,” explains Drew.
“Peace of mind, for our residents and their families is to know that whatever tomorrow holds, with Evergreen, you’re in great hands. Our professional frail care, and recuperative and palliative care offers the ultimate peace of mind and adds a vital layer to Evergreen’s range of continuous care services,” Drew says.
“The first layer provides for home-based healthcare, enabling residents to receive care in the familiar surroundings of their homes, with 24-hour emergency assistance at the push of a button,” he explains. “This is further enhanced by our health clinics, where primary services include health checks such as blood pressure, flu vaccines and the treatment of basic ailments,” Drew adds. “Frailty is a natural phase of ageing and is a key concern amongst the more elderly residents. Now, with our new Frail Care Unit, we proudly offer the ultimate worry-free retirement for all our residents.”
