There is more fresh air and sunshine on the cards for the Thembalami residents after it had its grounds extensively landscaped.
This 114-year-old NPO contracted Schäffler's Garden Nursery and Landscaping to design six themed gardens. These are complete with seating areas and paved walkways as well as water features and two ponds for the enjoyment of residents.
Each of these six landscaped areas can be accessed via a number of exits leading from the care centre. The centre cares for physically and financially-vulnerable senior citizens, and also incorporates the Max Ordman Deaf Association (Moda).
In addition to the beautifully manicured gardens, a big new lapa with built-in braai and colourful chairs and tables was added and the parking area also boasts beautiful gardens too now.
The aim of the investment is to encourage residents to enjoy the beautifil grounds and offers residents’ families and friends comfortable outdoors meeting places to enjoy the company of their loved ones.
The landscaping was done with specific focus on water-wise and easy-to-maintain gardening. This doesn't steal any bright and beautiful colour from the joyful garden beds. They are lush and abundant with flowers, shrubs and other plants.
The care centre underwent extensive renovations following its 2016 merger with Moda. This was done to accommodate the Moda residents who moved into Thembalami in June 2017, once the construction was complete.
