At Ron Smith Care Centre, situated on the grounds of Elphin Lodge, the emphasis is on individualised care – we see the person, not the patient.

Run by the well-established Rand Aid Association, Ron Smith Care Centre pioneered person-centred care by becoming the first organisation in Africa to achieve Milestone 2 on the Eden Alternative® Registry, in April 2020.

Founded in America by a Harvard-educated physician, the core concept of the Eden Alternative is about teaching us to see places where elders live as habitats for human beings rather than facilities for the frail and elderly. Eden Alternative thus sees ageing as a continued stage of development and growth and not as a period of decline. The Eden Alternative initiative ensures that we bring the highest level of care and well-being to our residents and take into account their holistic well-being, not just their physical care.

Care has been taken to create inviting dining rooms, lounges and outdoor spots. There is a tuckshop and coffee shop on the premises, providing a pleasant place for loved ones to gather. Ron Smith Care Centre is set in beautiful grounds, with a scenic dam, garden benches and a playground for grandchildren. Excellent security is a priority.

Facilities available for the comfort of residents are an inter-denominational chapel; a recreation centre offering crafts and activities of interest to residents, under the guidance of an occupational therapist; a library and large, well-equipped hall and snooker and card rooms, shared with Elphin Lodge.

Rates include full board and lodging, laundry, recreational and/or occupational therapy services, 24-hour nursing care, and a doctor for routine consultations. The services of a full-time social worker are included in our holistic care approach.

Ron Smith Care Centre is conveniently located just off the N3, close to the Greenstone Shopping Centre and Linksfield Hospital.
