Essenwood Residential Home – a unique old age home Durban based for ladies – has a long and rich history as a home for older ladies. The Durban Benevolent Society, formed in 1855, established a Home for Aged Women in Victoria Street. Subsequently the Home moved to Essenwood Road to a larger more suitable building. Walter Greenacre donated land, and a bequest from his father, Sir Benjamin Greenacre, made it possible for Essenwood Residential Home to be erected on the land. The home was completed and started taking residents from 1921.
We believe in the delivery of excellent care with honesty, kindness and respect. All ladies over the age of sixty are welcome.
We have a wide range of residential options from which you can choose:
Independent Living from R8300 p/m.
Assisted Living for ladies who need minimal support, from R13400 p/m.
Frail Care rooms for ladies who need full care, from R16300 p/m.
Palliative Care is available for new Residents who need special care at the end of life – rates on request.
Short-Stays/Respite is available for those who need short-term accommodation/care – rates on request.
Rooms may be shared or single, depending on your budget.
Limited ensuite rooms are available.
Skilled nursing staff are present day and night, and they oversee all care in liaison with the Resident’s own doctor and family. Our beautiful old building is situated next to a picturesque park, and close to all Musgrave amenities. Cleaning services, meals and laundry are included in the monthly rental cost. Every day we have activities within the Home to stimulate and entertain our Residents. These activities include crafting, bingo, quizzes, music, fun days, puzzles, and all sorts of special events. We offer a hair salon, beautician services as well as weekly tuck shop and Spar orders.
