The Helderberg Society for the Aged retirement group is based in Somerset West. It offers retirement solutions as well as a continuum of care options spanning these four pillars of service: Independent Living, Assisted Living, Frail Care and Clinical Services.
INDEPENDENT LIVING:
If you’re at least 60 years of age but still active and able to live independently, our “Independent Living” units are ideal for you. You can choose from a variety of options, including comfortable flats and apartments to ground-floor, free-standing garden units, at various price points. You can also enjoy tailored services, which include membership to the Vonke Service Centre, and other services and activities. At HSFA, we encourage residents to remain independent for as long as possible by providing ongoing “Active Ageing” activities. There are eight Independent Living Units: Vonke House, Swannack Gardens, La Rochelle, Lancelot, Camelot, Butler Court, Protea Court, and Bowden Park (a Life rights Unit),
ASSISTED LIVING:
The Assisted Living units at HSFA are for senior citizens who still enjoy an active and social lifestyle, and their independence but don’t want the responsibility of household chores. Both the Assisted Living Units (Silver Oaks Lodge and Robari Lodge) are walking distance from Somerset West central, with accessibility to numerous amenities and services.
- Rental includes accommodation, laundry, all meals, a weekly cleaning service as well as an emergency call system.
- Additional services include activities and outings, exercises and more.
- Nursing care is not available, however our Clinical Services team is available.
- Pre-packed medication is compulsory, while no medication is administered by our staff.
FRAIL CARE:
The HSFA Frail Care Service Pillar provides for the needs of older people who are frail and require 24-hour care and supervision to help them retain their dignity.
The Frail care services have been centralised at Vonke Park. Both the Support Centre and Mountview departments are focused on providing these services. Accommodation costs include all nursing, caring, meals and cleaning.
We also have a specialised wing – Flamingo – at the Support Centre, which is dedicated to caring for people affected by Dementia and other related diseases. Emergency Care and Day Care are also available at the Support Centre for residents living in other units at the HSFA, as well as older people living in the community.
CLINICAL SERVICES:
This service consists of a clinic at Vonke Park, as well as clinical nurses who visit all the units on a regular basis providing basic clinical care. Caring and cleaning is also provided to HSFA residents at our Independent and Assisted Living Units. The Clinical Services Team consists of registered nurses with clinical and palliative care qualifications.
Clinical Assessments and Services include: Urine Tests, INR Tests, Blood Pressure Checks, Blood Glucose Checks, Health maintenance: flu vaccinations, vitamin injections, ear flushes, Laboratory Blood Tests (prebooked), Medication Checks and Consultations.
Clinical Services also provide these additional care programmes: Wound Care Management, Medication administration, Blisterpack management, Palliative Care and hospital visits, Hepatitis B Staff Programme.
OTHER SERVICES:
The HSFA also has senior service centres where community based care and support services are available. Older people are provided with organised programmes and activities to assist them to live independently in their communities.
A service centre is a gateway to the ageing network — connecting older adults to vital community services that enable them to stay healthy and independent. Membership is available to people over the age of 60 in order to qualify for discounted services and various activities hosted at the Helderberg Society for the Aged.
