Located in the quaint coastal town of Pennington, the retirement village is 71km from Durban and 14km from Scottburgh. Thanks to its close proximity to Umdoni Park, the natural surroundings of the Umdoni Village are a magnificent feature. The whole property is immaculately maintained and is a paradise for the keen gardener. For golfing enthusiasts, there’s convenient golf cart access at the Umdoni Park Golf Course and Selborne Country Club just across the road.
The large on-site frail-care and dementia-care facility offers access to healthcare services whenever you need it.
Umdoni Retirement Village consists of 350 face brick cottages, set on 33 hectares of land, which is tucked away in the lush indigenous forest of Fever and Umdoni trees.
Originally started on land donated by Prof and Mrs Coles, additional land was bought by the society to develop Umdoni Village into what it is today.
Although not an Eco estate, Umdoni Retirement Village has almost 6 hectares of its 33 hectares retained as natural forest or wetland areas. Many indigenous trees have been untouched and left between cottages and there are great efforts to plant grasslands around the attenuation dam in the new section of the village. 124 different species of birds have been identified and various types of buck have been spotted in the village.
With a huge variety of social activities available to residents, Umdoni Retirement Village’s social scene is a vibrant one. You choose what you would like to do and when, all the village does is provide options with a wide range of different amenities and activities designed to suit everyone.
The village is home to a chapel, pool, hall, bowling greens, tennis courts, gym, library, shops, a beauty salon and hair salon amongst others. Chess clubs, art clubs, music groups, yoga classes, quilters, bridge players, golf players, tennis tournaments, bowling clubs, gardening projects and plays are regularly organized by committees within the villages. Many of the village clubs have built strong relationships with the town communities and actively participate in community projects.
Umdoni Retirement Village has 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units which are sold on a “Life Rights” basis. All cottages are refurbished once they become available. Residents are encouraged to develop gardens around their cottages, whilst The Society employs a garden service to mow lawns and trim edges.
