This retirement home has its origin in mid-1965, a vision of a wise lady by the name of Mrs Adriana Henriette Johanna Oosthuizen. She left funds in her last will and testament, with a wish that a facility, to care for the frail and aged, should be brought into existence.
The present-day retirement village has grown substantially from the early days and now consists of 93 homes, ranging from one-bedroomed ground floor apartments to three-bedroom cottages, some with and some without garages, a fully-fledged and equipped frail care center with 30 beds, a dining room serving excellent food out of a well-managed kitchen. The laundry sees to your washing should you so wish, and a a ten-bed Assisted Living wing is now ready to be occupied.
All these units have ample space around them with huge lawns and rose flower beds and all have these magnificent views of the mountains surrounding Wakkerstroom. Your neighbour is walking distance away from you yet very private in his own right and living area.
Wakkerstroom??? you will ask, yes, a small rural and tourist attraction town right on the Kwa Zulu Natal escarpment, where time is dictated by the upcoming and setting sun. Beautiful sunsets and a very large number of bird species in the vlei land next to which the town was established in 1895 bring tourists to town to enjoy facilities such as the “old-time” style hotel and other buildings renovated into shops and restaurants, well visited over weekends and school holidays.
The rustic and peaceful environment inside the secure and well-cared-for retirement facility with its large gardens and flower beds, on the north side of town, serves the residents with tranquility and peace where the activities in our service center are ample and yet the life very steady and, at each person’s, own pace.
