Avondrust Court – RondeboschEarlier this year, CPOA and Twinkles Playschool joined forces to pilot the very first intergenerational playschool in South Africa. Not uncommon overseas, the intergenerational method has been recognized for its extensive benefits to both children and the elderly. The space offers convenient outdoor and indoor areas which have been separated from the residents’ living areas. Independent living apartments, a care centre and a memory care centre allow residents from across the spectrum to interact with the children. Varied daily activity programmes provide social interaction and entertainment while focusing on different aspects of cognitive function and physical well-being. Residents enjoy a diverse range of activities from music therapy to crafts, sport games to table games, scenic drives and more. As everyone has different levels of ability, these activities are adjusted to suit each individual’s level of comfort.
