Run by the well-established NPO Rand Aid Association, Thembalami Care Centre offers quality care to older persons who are unable to live independently.
The accommodation consists of north-facing double or single rooms. Two single rooms are linked to a shared bathroom and all double rooms are en-suite. The upstairs rooms have access to a balcony, while the ground floor rooms lead directly into the beautiful gardens.
We recognise that while the residents in our care cannot do what they once could, they are people before they are patients. Thus, they are encouraged to keep up their interests, and we offer services and amenities to support their holistic well-being – from arranging visiting entertainers; to transport to shopping centres; a large games and recreation room; comfy seating areas for chats; an occupational therapy programme offering arts, crafts and gentle exercise; to a dining hall that encourages social interaction; and spacious grounds with manicured gardens, a dam and bird hide, water features, vegetable garden, lapa, outdoor seating and paved walkways.
Visits by family and friends are welcomed at any time and regular family days are hosted to increase contact with loved ones and interaction among family members.
Residents – especially those with dementia or in need of therapy – benefit from a multi-sensory room. Lights, music, bubble tubes and other sensory delights are designed to alternatively calm or stimulate.
Fees include full board and lodging with three balanced meals a day; 24-hour nursing care, a nurse-call system in every room, a daily visiting doctor, from Monday to Friday; laundry services; an occupational therapy programme; and the services of a full-time social worker.
24-hour security includes access control, patrolling personnel, and electrified fencing with CCTV monitoring perimeter cameras.
Additionally, there is an inter-denominational chapel, library, hairdresser, visiting podiatrist by appointment, and superette.
We follow an admission process that includes a screening interview to identify the most suitable area for the applicant. If there is no availability in that area of the care centre, the applicant is placed on a waiting list.
