Rand Aid Association’s Thembalami Frail Care Centre Johannesburg offers people 60 years and above full frail care services in a caring environment.
Based in Lombardy East, it is easily accessed from the N3 highway and is a stone’s throw from the Greenstone Shopping Centre.
Set in large, manicured gardens, it has paved walkways, a scenic dam, water features, bird-watching facilities, a lapa, and a herb and vegetable garden, all of which encourage residents and visitors to spend time outdoors.
Family and friends may visit at any time and regular family days are held to increase interaction with family members.
Physical and cognitive exercises are essential for healthy ageing and residents are therefore encouraged to remain active for as long as possible.
An occupational therapy programme – designed to keep residents engaged and entertained – is offered at no additional cost. Regular activities include morning exercise routines, outings, participation in crafts and hobbies, board games, cards, and live entertainment – including a monthly party held to celebrate residents’ birthdays.
The frail care centre has a Snoezelen multi-sensory room. It uses gentle light, soothing sounds, relaxing smells and comfortable seats to calm and reduce agitation, but can also be used for stimulation by employing compelling visuals, music and sounds, energising smells, and textures to explore.
The dining room is cheerfully decorated and enables residents to gather socially three times a day.
Additional facilities and services include:
- Inter-denominational chapel.
- Library.
- Transport to nearby shops and amenities.
- Hairdresser.
- Visiting podiatrist by appointment.
- Superette.
- Recreational activity area.
Thembalami Accommodation
The care centre caters for 114 elders who are no longer able to live independently.
The accommodation consists of north-facing double or single rooms. Two single rooms are linked to a shared bathroom and all double rooms are en-suite – making them perfect for couples. The upstairs rooms have access to a garden-view balcony, while the ground-floor rooms lead directly onto the beautiful gardens.
Residents are invited to make their rooms homely by bringing along personal or sentimental items, such as a favourite picture or a comfortable chair.
Fees include full board and lodging, 24-hour nursing care with a nurse-call system, podiatry, a doctor on-call and laundry service.
The care centre’s holistic-care approach means that attention is given to residents’ spiritual and mental well-being and to this end, a full-time social worker is part of Thembalami’s dedicated team.
The affordable rates are based on the type of accommodation available. Please contact Thembalami Frail Care Centre to discuss your needs.
